Synopsis
"Mala Madre (Spanish for "bad mother") is the name of a plant I discovered in a cemetery in Venezuela. There, at dusk, men come to dig up bodies and seek the golden remains. Shrouds fill the ground and souls wander restlessly."
Alexe Liebert's word
For Nuits Photo 2023, Alexe Liebert, the festival's artistic director, offered us a selection of photographic films from previous editions. She tells us why she chose this film...
Celine Croze's films come from a reality that only she can penetrate, and from which she brings us snippets of a hypnotic and visceral universe, fragments of images and sounds whose existence we question, but which she always arranges with great sensitivity. A deep poetry that immerses us in a tormented unconscious.
MALA MADRE is the mother of all lost souls, but it's also a gateway to the supernatural, somewhere between a fairy tale and a documentary.
