Photographer

Álvaro Hoppe was born in Chile in 1956. His photographic work is characterised by the development of street photography and reportage. He photographed the most tense moments of the dictatorship, mainly for the magazine Apsi. Later, he also captured the crucial moments of the transition to democracy. 

His work has been shown in the exhibitions Chile Vive (Spain, 1987), Fotografía Chilena Contemporánea (Ecuador, 1989), Museo Abierto (MNBA, 1990), Chile from within (USA, 1990), El Artificio del Lente (MAC, 2000) and STGO-ZGZ: Fotografía de Transición (Spain, 2002).
