Film director

Carole Laganière is a Quebec director born in 1959 in Montreal and died in 2023.

She studied at INSAS in Brussels, Belgium.

After directing several works of fiction, she turned to documentary filmmaking, which enabled her to reconcile her social and artistic concerns. Her approach, based on slow, almost ethnographic observation, is close to the direct cinema movement, emblematic of the Quebec documentaries of the 1960s and 1970s. She spends long periods developing a bond of trust with her subjects before filming them.
