Gilbert & George
Artistes
Gilbert & George (Gilbert Proesch, born in Italy in 1943 and George Passmore, born in England in 1942) studied sculpture at Saint Martin's School of Art, where they met in 1967. Since 1968, the duo has lived and worked in London's East End, their substratum. Transgressing multiples taboos and using universal graphic codes, they project themselves in large formats, subjects and witnesses of human fragility and the terrors of the contemporary world. Winners of the Turner Prize in 1986, exhibited in China from 1993, they represented the United Kingdom at the Venice Biennale in 2005.
