Massimo Nicolaci was born in Catania, Italy, in 1989. From 2006 to 2012 he attended several photography workshops with Anders Petersen, Michael Ackerman, Lorenzo Castore, Christopher Morris, Christian Caujolle and others. His photographic works include “Ground Floor” in 2008; “NYC” in 2010; “Prendimi per mano” in 2011; “Nessuno è solo” in 2012; “Edimburg” and “Scotland Faces” in 2014; “Pigalle” from 2016 to 2018; “Stramondo” from 2008 to 2019; and “In the middle of nowhere” on going. 

In 2009 he is among the 20 photographers selected under 30 by Magnum Photos for the “First Impression” event at the Photography Gallery in London. In 2015 he works together with director Alessandro Comodin on the making of the film “Happy times will come soon”. In 2017 he works together with director Emanuelle Demoris on the making of the film “The Ghosts of the Lake.” In 2018 he made his first 25-minute documentary film “Sing your song boy” produced by Ulala Film, made in India with Lorenzo Castore and Michael Ackerman. The movie was presented for the first time at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris (LA MEP). 

Since 2018 he has been collaborating with Paolo Verzone as lighting director and video operator. In 2018 he published his first book “La cerva bianca”, in 2023 his second book “Sitting on the fire” a conversation with Anders Petersen.
